Today is National Bacon Day and in honor of this special day, I wanted to share my favorite type of bacon with you guys. Petit Jean Meats offers the thickest, most amazing flavor, low grease bacon I have ever eaten. I was first introduced to their line of products while in college in Searcy, Arkansas. Last Christmas, we enjoyed one of their delicious holiday hams and David & I both agreed it was the best ham we had ever ate in our lives! I'm more of an SEC football fan (ROLL TIDE) than an NFL fan but one team most everyone is familiar with in the NFL is the Dallas Cowboys. Petit Jean Meats has become an official sponsor of the Dallas Cowboys! They will be marketing their line of ham and bacon products as the "Official Ham & Bacon of the Dallas Cowboys".
We had the opportunity to enjoy some of these products in our home and I can't wait to share them with you. Petit Jean Meats offers regular bacon and peppered bacon. Their regular thick-sliced bacon takes the word "thick" to a whole new level and the bacon cooks up nice and plump creating beautiful slices to enjoy. With its wonderful smokehouse flavor everyone you serve it to will enjoy it! The Peppered Bacon takes the regular hickory smoked bacon and adds the same brown sugar and black pepper glaze used on their hams to create a unique spicy, smoky flavor bacon. Our entire family loves these bacon products. The kids love the regular hickory smoked bacon and David & I enjoy the Peppered Bacon. I have also found that using their Peppered Bacon in recipes that call for bacon really adds to the dish too.
We also had enjoyed their Deer Summer Sausage with Jalapeno & Cheese. I am a huge fan of Petit Jeans Summer Sausage with Jalapeno & Cheese but I have to admit, I was a little skeptical of deer summer sausage because I am not a huge fan of deer meat. However, Petit Jean totally showed me and my family that deer meat can be delicious too. They take deer meat, combine it with a little bit of their fresh pork and throw in some special seasonings to create a fairly mild, peppery jalapeno & cheese sausage. Much to my surprise, this sausage was not grainy but was absolutely delicious. We didn't tell the kids it was deer sausage at first but after they had eaten it and enjoyed it, we told them. They couldn't believe it was deer sausage because they had really liked it.
Currently, the "Official Dallas Cowboys" products are available in the Brookshire/Fresh Market in Tyler, Texas and the H.E.B. Markets throughout most of Texas. If you don't live in Texas, you are still in luck because you can purchase these products online at Kountry Specialties.
