Zombie Church Review and Blog Tour

zombie church
About the Book:  There is something missing in the church today.  Stuck in a rut of routines and rituals, the church is caught up in doing "what it is supposed to do" but is lacking the true essence of what it is supposed to provide:  LIFE.  Real faith---and a real relationship with Jesus---it's not about playing by the rules, attending services, and praying before meals. Real faith is more than religion.  Zombie Church by Tyler Edwards is a creative, entertaining approach to resurrecting the undead church.

My Thoughts:  I have to admit, I requested this book because the title alone "Zombie Church" was intriguing to me.  I wasn't sure I would really like reading it but I was curious enough about it to want to check it out.  I could not have been more shocked by how good this book was!  Edwards writes in such a way that you don't have to do any deep theological thinking to totally grasp the concepts he is presenting and the solutions to such. He makes it plain, simple and easy to understand.  One of my favorite parts was when he pointed out that the devil is busiest AT church!  How many churches today skirt the issue of sin in society and within the church walls because they want everyone to feel good when they leave church and they don't want to preach about the devil and sins that are so active and alive in our churches and members.  Of course, the devil will be at church working a plan to try to divide and conquer the body of believers.  Edwards doesn't just point out and address all the problems in our zombie churches but he shows that there is a cure for this as well. His cure is presented in a way that will teach, inspire and motivate.  I am happy to say that our family is in a very much alive church and while the devil will still try to weasel his way in and we may have some "zombies" within our body of believers as a whole we are live, working and active to further the Gospel.  This book would also make a great read for someone who claims to be atheist or doesn't see the necessity of faithful church attendance too.

One of my favorite quotes is:
"the problem with most people is we take ourselves too seriously, and God too lightly". We have this tendency to make church all about what we want or what we get out of it to the point that if we dont like something we will just take our ball and go home. As churches tend to measure success almost exclusively on numbers and growth they become so preoccupied with keeping people that they cower away from uncomfortable truths so as not to chase people off. However, it seems more and more are becoming aware of this issue and starting to do something about it. The best part is: it only takes one. Jesus changed the world with a couple of nobodies who were filling to follow Him. He doesnt need our numbers, just our willingness to commit ourselves to His cause.
